The centerpiece of every ship during Halloween sailings is the signature magical Pumpkin Tree towering over the atrium lobby, each with sprouting Jack-O-Lanterns and flickering lights. During its inaugural season of Halloween cruises in Fall 2022, the Disney Wish, the newest Disney Cruise Line ship, will introduce a unique twist on a Halloween on the High Seas hallmark. In terms of what’s new for 2022, Disney Cruise Line guests will be the first to experience an all-new character meet and greet opportunity across the fleet during Halloween on the High Seas sailings. Having put massive effort into our costume, we were so excited that we wore the darn thing nearly all day; we found ourselves in the minority in that regard. Although nearly everyone onboard dressed up, and many costumes obviously involved a lot of effort, we didn't see many others (kids or adults) in costumes until the early evening. And don’t forget equally Ghoulish Delights, tasty themed food and specialty beverages made available just for the Halloween season.

Ghoulish Fun
From creepy cooking demonstrations to arts & crafts to terrifying trivia, there’s something spooky to do for everyone. Little cruisers can even enjoy extra-special Halloween arts and crafts activities especially for them, such as face painting and pumpkin carving. Equally as fun is seeing the many creative costumes donned by your fellow cruise guests. From jack-o-lantern t-shirts to clever DisneyBounding takes to extravagant group costumes, you’ll see it all. The Pumpkin Tree on each Disney cruise ship is so much more than just an elaborate centerpiece.
Find Fun for the Whole Family on a Halloween Cruise

If you feel like embracing the sweater weather, go on one of our cruises around the Mediterranean, which stop in spectacular ports in Italy, Spain, and Portugal. The line also created a special film called "Halloween on Board," which will be broadcast in the theater. There will also be a kids' screenplay contest, in which participants can submit an idea for a Halloween-themed episode for MSC's own web series.
If you are looking for adult-only fun, head to the casino to try your luck on the tables or just to show off your great costume and grab a drink at the bar. You can also visit one of the many bars on the ship to check out everyone else’s costumes and what kind of Halloween cocktails they are serving up. If you visit an open deck, you might even find yourself howling at the moon at some point! Halloween Trivia will also let you test your knowledge of Halloween-related info. Halloween on the High Seas voyages will be offered aboard select Disney Cruise Line sailings aboard the Magic, Wonder, Dream, Fantasy, plus the new Disney Wish ship. Sail dates occur from September 12, 2022 through early November 2022, including a flagship 4-Night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral aboard the Disney Wish that starts on Halloween.

A Disney cruise is amazing any time of year, but especially during spooky season. Regardless of the time of year, Pirate Night is offered once on each sailing of every Disney ship. On short sailings, Pirate Night is often held on the same night as the main Halloween soiree. That means anyone who wants to participate in both either has to bring two costumes and do a wardrobe change or simply go as a pirate for Halloween. Because the day can hold as many, or occasionally fewer, Pirate-themed activities as it does Halloween ones, it can be exhausting for those who want to do it all. During our experience, they also hosted games and a family-friendly costume dance party in the atrium, and shipwide trick-or-treating was offered for children at the onboard shops.

We had to spray-paint tights for ours; waiting until the night before our sailing to do so meant we had to transport pantyhose that were still drying (and full of fumes). For the ultimate spine-chilling experience, consider decorating inside your room, too. If you don’t mind having to set it up, BYOD (bring your own decorations) and save some cash.
Departure Ports & Destinations Visited on a Halloween on the High Seas Cruise
Halloween on the High Seas will be a highlight of the fall season, running from mid-September through October 2024. Guests on select cruises across the fleet will be immersed in the spooky fun of Halloween. Families can dress up in their costumes and join Disney characters for a hauntingly good time.
Halloween and Christmas Celebrations are returning to Disney Cruise Line in 2024
We ended up being so busy before our cruise that Halloween costumes kind of slipped my mind. So my daughter and I both just decked ourselves out in Halloween attire that we had accumulated from Walt Disney World over the years and it worked out just fine. If you’re looking to save room in your luggage but still want to dress up, you can always double up your Pirate Night costume as a Halloween costume as well!
Dressing up in costume is a Halloween tradition for a reason – it’s undeniably fun! While you don’t need to don anything too extravagant (even a Halloween t-shirt or creative DisneyBound will do), getting in costume will help put you in the appropriate spirit. If you’re anything like us, you’ll also love seeing everyone else on the cruise in their frightening finery.

Truthfully I was surprised by this since the event is literally called Pirates in the Caribbean, but I can’t complain because we love Pirate Night! You’ll be able to tell if your cruise includes Pirate Night when you receive your itinerary so that you can plan accordingly. If you’re sailing on the Disney Wish, they also light up the wishing star to match the Halloween vibe.
There does seem to be some confusion about it though, since it has changed. If you’re sailing on the Disney Wish, it is held in the Hero Zone on deck 12. It’s only held at specific times, so you’ll have to check the navigator app to find out when it is. Other cruisers from other ships have reported that it has been held in both the atrium and on the upper deck of the ship, so just be sure to check your Disney Cruise app for details.
Chef Rudi Sodamin's cuisine features "pumpkin-centric" magic from the kitchen, while special cocktails are served such as the Vampire Martini and Midnight Pumpkin Cocktail. There will also be pumpkin-carving demonstrations and a Halloween-themed night in the casinos. Kids can safely trick-or-treat onboard, stopping at Guest Services and other stations where staff dispense sweets. Other youth activities include a popular kids' costume parade and Halloween-themed arts and crafts. While every line profiled observes Halloween in the Americas, you'll want to double-check regarding cruises elsewhere, which might or might not offer festivities. We always recommend that you decorate your door when you cruise.
This is typically the time cruises are less booked and you can find a cheaper price. If you’re a fan of Halloween, Disney, and cruising, then you’ll likely find that Halloween on the High Seas is worth the extra cost for you and your family. This special event offers a wide range of activities and experiences that are only available during the Halloween season. From trick-or-treating and character meet-and-greets to themed parties and spooky décor, what’s not to love.
Spending any holiday at sea will likely add some excitement to an otherwise standard sailing, but if you're booked aboard a Halloween cruise, you're in for an extra-special treat. Most of the mainstream cruise lines encourage dressing up (yes, even for adults), and some also offer onboard trick-or-treating for kids. Below are some Halloween tips and tricks we picked up during a voyage over October 31. Royal Caribbean ships put on haunted houses or Halloween-themed carnivals (offerings vary by ship), and welcome costumes for both kids and adults. Kids' club staffers will bring the wee revelers trick-or-treating around the ship, while adults will find plenty of thrills, including their own costume party and contest. Mickey’s Mouse-querade was probably our favorite event of the entire Halloween on the High Seas cruise.
